William studied economics and finance at the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS), following which he became a senior analyst at New Energy Finance where he was in charge of analysing energy markets in sub-Saharan Africa. He then moved to Singapore and was part of the team that set up Deutsche Bank’s first carbon trading desk.

After acquiring an expertise in the energy investment and finance markets, William moved to his family company, Lloyd George Management, a specialist Global Emerging and Frontier Markets equity manager with US$2.6 billion in assets under management, which is now part of the BMO Financial Group. He has since been involved in raising finance and developing solar farms across Africa measuring from 20MW – 250 MW, developing a large-scale housing development in Uganda and bringing an international upscale hotel chain into Africa.

William speaks Burmese, Ethiopian Amharic, Spanish, French and is also a prolific political analyst with articles appearing in TIME, Newsweek, Economist, The Times and many more. He writes primarily on finance and African affairs.
